Levitra is a brand of erectile dysfunction medication that is also known by its generic name of Vardenafil. It works by increasing blood flood to the penis to increase possibility of getting an erection. Note that Levitra does not help protect against any sexually transmitted diseases and safe sex should be practiced.
Levitra should be taken in as prescribed on the label, and should not be taken more than once in a 24 hour period of time. It is suggested that it be taken at least 60 minutes before having sexual intercourse in order to get the maximum affect. No more than 20 mg should be taken in a day.
Before taking Levitra, it is important to take note of any medicines you are currently taking or health issues you have that could possibly interact with the medication. If you are allergic to vardenafil or are taking any medications such as riociguat or nitrate medications, do not take Levitra. Doing so could possibly cause a sudden decrease in blood pressure.
If you are taking any medications that are similar to Levitra, such as Viagra, Stendra, or Cialis, do not take Levitra. Speak with your healthcare provider if you are taking any medications such as antibiotics, antifungals, high blood pressure medicine, prostate disorder treatments, heart rhythm medication, or medications to treat HIV or AIDS.
Speak with your healthcare provider if you have health conditions such as heart disease or heart rhythm problems, history of a heart attack, stroke or congestive heart failure, history of seizures, high blood pressure or low pressure, liver or kidney disease, any type of blood cell disorder such as sickle cell anemia or leukemia, hearing or vision problems such as history of vision loss, bleeding disorder such as hemophilia, any type of eye disorder, a stomach ulcer, a penis physical deformity, or if you’ve been told to avoid having sexual intercourse due to health reasons.
Note that Levitra can cause a decrease in blood flow to the optic nerve of the eye, which can cause sudden vision loss. While this is possible, it usually has happened mostly in people who have already had pre-existing eye problems or were already at high risk for blood vessel disorders.
Common side effects from taking Levitra include stuffy nose, back pain, upset stomach, headache, dizziness, and flushing. More serious side effects include allergic reaction, vision changes, ringing of the ears, sudden hearing loss, irregular heart beat, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, painful erection or an erection lasting for 4 hours or longer, seizures, hand, ankle, or foot swelling, and symptoms of heart attack such as chest pain, chest pressure, nausea, sweating, and pain spreading to the jaw or shoulder.
Because Levitra is a medication that should only be taken on an as needed basis, it is not possible to miss a dose. Should you feel that you have overdosed on this medication, seek medical attention immediately.
Levitra should be stored at room temperature in an area away from moisture and heat. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
